He was born in 1974 in the city of Denizli, and finished his high school studies at Antalya High School in 1991. He then continued his university studies at Gazi University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Public Administration, and graduated in 1995. He then obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Exeter in 2010.

Himmet Karadağ started his career in 1998, and has served as a Board Member of the Capital Markets Board since 2012 and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors on 01.04.2016. In 2016 and 2018, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Istanbul Stock Exchange and the Central Register Authority. On 19.01.2017, he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Wealth Fund, where he served as General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 09.07.2017 to 09.12.2018.

Himmet Karadag has served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Halkbank (People's Bank) since 13.08.2018.

On January 1, 2023, he joined Oragon Company to manage real estate portfolios and investment project capital portfolios as a founding partner.
